We are a member-owned federal credit union, born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Since our beginnings serving local airmen in 1952, we have provided financial lift to tens of thousands all around the world through simple products, a consistently improving and responsive member experience, and complimentary financial literacy and education. Our Story

In 1952, ten determined servicemen stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, each investing $5, joined forces to open Lackland Federal Credit Union—the foundation for what would later become Soarion Credit Union. Despite modest beginnings in a single-room office on base with part-time staff, their vision burned brightly.

Within just a year, their numbers multiplied exponentially, attracting 853 members who shared their commitment to financial empowerment. Today, Soarion Credit Union stands tall, serving nearly 55,000 members across the globe—both in and out of the military—a testament to the enduring spirit of those who dare to soar for a brighter financial future.

For over seven decades, Soarion Credit Union (formerly AFFCU) has been a safe and stable option for our members’ banking and financial needs. The U.S. Government Agency, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), insures deposits up to $250,000 individually and up to $250,000 for a share of joint accounts.
