Meet the President and CEO

Dear Soarion Credit Union Members,

Today marks my first day as President & CEO of your credit union. I am honored to have been entrusted by our Board of Directors to take on this exciting new opportunity and continue our vision for Soarion Credit Union. Since joining the Soarion team two years ago, I spent much of that time working alongside Senior Management and our Board of Directors, developing a plan for the future of the credit union – one that will bring you, our members, the best possible benefits. And I am committed to ensuring we remain true to that vision.

I could not be more excited to use my 25 years of financial industry experience to continue moving Soarion Credit Union forward. We have big plans for 2025, including the opening of our new headquarters and financial center in the downtown San Antonio area. This will allow us to better serve our members who live or work in the city center. For our members, financial success begins here at Soarion Credit Union, and we are committed to providing the tools to help you reach your goals.

Now, more than ever, the credit union staff is eager to help all our members find the best solutions and resources that will lead to financial success – whatever that may be for you and your loved ones.

As a native of South Texas and an entrepreneur, I understand firsthand the importance of community and supporting the people you serve. And I, along with the entire Soarion Credit Union team, look forward to serving you.

Sincerely,

Ricardo (Ric) Ledezma

Don’t Become a Money Mule

Money Mules are people who, at someone else’s direction, receive and move money obtained from victims of fraud.

How can you protect yourself and ensure you don’t facilitate one of these scams?

Warning signs:

  • Someone you met online asks you to accept money and send it to someone else.
  • Someone asks you to open a bank or cryptocurrency account.
  • Someone asks you to receive packages for them.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Don’t agree to receive or send money or packages for people you don’t know or haven’t met in person.
  • Don’t send money to an online love interest, even if the money was sent to you first.
  • Don’t pay to collect a prize or send someone money out of your “winnings.”
  • Never give your financial information to someone you don’t know and trust.

If you believe that you are participating in a money mule scam, report the suspicious activity to the FBI’s Internet Compliant Center (IC3) at ic3.gov or contact your local FBI field office.

Beware of AI Scams

Artificial Intelligence scams: What are they? And how can you protect yourself from them?

As technology is changing, so are the ways fraudsters deploy scams.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) scams are currently on the rise. This scam happens when a fraudster uses AI to clone the voice of a loved one or loved ones, then calls using the voice, pretending to be desperate for money to get out of trouble or danger. This call is usually followed by a second call from the fraudster who then claims to be a public defender, law enforcement agent, or an attorney for your loved one. They request money to help your loved one and ask you to send the funds through wire transfers, gift cards, payment apps, or cryptocurrency.

Meant to play on emotion, these calls can be very convincing. If you should receive a call like this, try not to panic, don’t immediately believe the claim. Instead, ask questions that only your real loved one would know or hang up and call your loved one at a number you know to be theirs. If you can’t reach them, try other measures to contact them before assuming the call is real. We also encourage you to take precautions on what you share on social media. Fraudsters use this information to learn about you and your loved ones.

If you have been a victim of a scam or spot a scam, please call Soarion Credit Union or report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Soarion Credit Union Continues to Grow Stellar Leadership Team with Internal Promotions and New Hire

Soarion Credit Union announces the promotions of two of its employees and welcomes a new staff member to its leadership team. Yvonne De La Rosa-Flores has been promoted to Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management, and Monica Benavides has been promoted to Assistant Vice President of Loan Servicing & Credit Solutions. Joining Soarion Credit Union as the new Assistant Vice President of HomeX Lending is Justin Eddleton.

“Many great things are happening right now at Soarion Credit Union – and all for the benefit of our members,” said Ryan Ross, Soarion Credit Union CEO. “As we continue to grow our stellar team, their combined expertise and dedication will help us find even more innovative solutions and enhanced services for our members.”

De La Rosa-Flores joined Soarion Credit Union in October 2022 as Director of Compliance and Risk Management and was soon thereafter promoted to Assistant Vice President. In her new role as Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management, De La Rosa-Flores will analyze and measure the exposure of risk to the credit union by monitoring products or services the credit union provides and the geographic locations in which it services to ensure it has proper internal controls in place to mitigate risk. De La Rosa-Flores has worked in the credit union industry for 32 years.

As the new Assistant Vice President of Loan Servicing & Credit Solutions, Benavides, who joined Soarion Credit Union in May 2023, is tasked with driving the strategic direction of the Credit Solutions, Payment Operations, and Card and Loan Servicing business units of the organization. She brings her 37 years of financial industry experience to her duties of overseeing asset recovery and disposal, collections, bankruptcy, titles, and more. Prior to her promotion, Benavides was Director of Credit Solutions for Soarion where she was responsible for the operations and management of a team of credit solutions advisors.

In May, Eddleton joined Soarion Credit Union from Credit Human where he served as the former Director of Sales & Marketing. Now, as Soarion’s Assistant Vice President of HomeX Lending, he will manage the credit union’s new department focused on sustainable home lending. He brings more than 16 years of financial industry experience to oversee strategic planning and development, loan portfolio management, product development, and more in his new role.

Soarion Credit Union Celebrates Grand Opening of its Marshall Road Financial Center

Today, Soarion Credit Union celebrated the official grand opening of its newest Financial Center, located at 2538 Marshall Road in northern San Antonio. The festivities included a ribbon-cutting ceremony presented by the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

The Marshall Road Financial Center is Soarion’s fifth financial center in the San Antonio area. Individuals can open accounts, make deposits and withdrawals, apply for loans, access a 24/7 drive-thru ATM, and more at the nearly 2,500 square-foot facility. The financial center, which opened to the public last month, provides full-service to members Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

“Our new Marshall Road Financial Center, with its sleek design and modern features, will be the blueprint for our future financial centers as we continue to grow and expand,” said Ryan Ross, Soarion Credit Union President and CEO. “One of our main goals as a credit union is to continuously find innovative ways to better serve our members so that they can achieve their financial success. Our Marshall Road Financial Center is a great example of that.”

In 2025, Soarion Credit Union is scheduled to open its new headquarters and financial center in the downtown San Antonio area.
